CEO & Co-Founder
Mudassir Sheikha is the CEO and co-founder of Careem, a purpose-driven technology platform that has reimagined how people move, earn, and access essential services across the wider Middle East. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, Mudassir holds a Bachelors in Computer Science and Economics from the University of Southern California and a Masters in Computer Science from Stanford University. He began his career in Silicon Valley, contributing to early-stage startups before transitioning to management consulting with McKinsey & Company in Dubai. In 2012, Mudassir co-founded Careem with a vision to simplify lives and unlock opportunities in a region long underserved by technology. Under his leadership, Careem grew from a ride-hailing service into the region’s leading Everything App with over 75 million users and 3.5 million captains. In 2016, Careem became the region’s first tech unicorn, and in 2019, it was acquired by Uber for $3.1 billion—the largest tech exit in MENA. Careem continues to expand its platform across mobility, deliveries and fintech, most recently accelerated by a $400 million investment from e& in 2023. Today, the company operates in more than 70 cities across 10 countries, contributing to the region’s digital transformation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
